There’s no getting around it. It’s the law. Passed in May 2016, the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the minimum standards of the Data Protection Directive. GDPR will go into effect on May 25, 2018. On that date, organizations worldwide will encounter new, uniform data protection requirements—or face hefty fines.
These new constraints will cause headaches for companies’ legal, HR, and IT departments as they plow through all the requirements for full compliance. Many vulnerabilities can be avoided by early consideration of security rather than by overlaying security as an afterthought. Technology and policies protecting personal data will need to be built in business processes from the start, affecting mobile app design, device configuration, and network access.
In this webinar Cindy Compert, IBM Security’s CTO Data Privacy & Security, will host IDC Research manager, Rob Westervelt. Join the webinar to learn more about GDPR, where it came from, how it will affect your organization and how IBM can help.
