CYBERUK 2018 is fast approaching, and I am really looking forward to spending three days in Manchester from April 10–12 catching up with the great and the good of the U.K. security world. The event offers a chance to rub elbows with established grandees, hear their opinions about future challenges in security and talk to suppliers about the technologies they’ve been working on to counter those threats.
As the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)’s flagship cybersecurity event, CYBERUK attracts over 1,800 attendees, and I’m delighted that IBM will exhibit again to share our latest developments in both the product and managed security space for government.
Promoting Collaboration for a More Secure Future
One of the keys to overcoming the security threats we all face is collaboration — combining our capabilities to deliver outcomes that are greater than the sum of their parts. CYBERUK is a fantastic event for meeting with new startups and established players alike to discover the huge amount of innovation that has been taking place.
Based on meetings from last year’s conference, I have been able to add new capabilities to the services IBM Security delivers to our clients, not only improving their security outcomes but also giving new companies vital cash flow and a chance to develop their products further.
Tapping New Pools of Security Talent
We have all heard about the security skills shortage and the fantastic work that the CyberFirst program has been doing to encourage people to pursue cybersecurity careers, be it for the first time, as a career change or when returning to the workplace. At IBM, we have been working hard on our AI Programme for Cyber Security, developing our capability to put highly technical information in the hands of those that need it when they need it.
This advanced knowledge augmentation feature gives those with less experience the ability to work alongside their more technical colleagues and allows organizations to tap into new capabilities previously unavailable to them.
These recruits bring new essential skills in the cyber fight, strong people skills and empathy, which allows them to deal with the people, processes and technical sides of security. As a result, organizations have a more rounded and heuristic capability as well as access to new security talent.
